Sharp on the Podium again at Silverstone

Rounds 18 and 19 of the 2010 Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup at Silverstone provided action throughout the field and saw Tom Sharp from Camberley take his seventh podium finish of the season despite starting well down the order.

Saturday mornings qualifying session didn't see Sharp display his recent form of pace after his double race winning weekend from Croft, the best he could manage in his IDL prepared car was a disappointing tenth on the grid for the opening race.

It was a frustrating end to the first race after Sharp made good progress through the pack to reach sixth. With four laps to go a broken gear linkage left the car stuck in fourth gear dropping Sharp back down to tenth where he would then have to start the next race.

Race two and a turn of fortune saw Sharp make a spectacular start moving past four cars by the first corner. A dice for the lead of the race between Frank Wrathall and Carl Breeze resulted in contact between the two which left Wrathall to retire with broken rear suspension and a spin for Breeze. Sharp quickly caught the car of Dan Dennis and passed around the outside of Maggots to secure an incredible seventh overall podium finish of the season.

"It was such a great race for me, I knew I had to do better than my starting position but I didn't think that a podium finish would be possible from back there considering how close the field is." explained Sharp.

Knockhill Circuit in Scotland hosts the next event on the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup calendar, 4th/5th September and can be seen live on ITV4 Sunday.
