Robert Wolk (AfintaPart Mygale) extended his lead in the South African Formula Ford Championship at Kyalami today after taking the overall win in round six of the series, part of the Vodacom Power Tour.
Wolk finished in second place in race one after a race-long scrap with championship rival Ian Parsons (Nu-Phalt Van Diemen) saw the laurels go to the Englishman. He then went on to win the second race after a clash with Parsons saw the latter spin off the circuit.
Parsons started from pole position in both races and fought off the advances of Wolk in the first race to take his second win of the year. He once again led the second race until the clash with Wolk left him in the sand trap.
He rejoined the circuit in second place, but with a damaged car. His recovery did not last long as Leslie Reynolds (Airnet Travel Mygale) attempted to retrieve the place from him later in the lap, which saw the cars tangle and spell the end of Parsons' race.
Reynolds started the first race from second on the grid, but made a poor start to slip to third. He finished third in race one, and sixth in the second after his tangle with Parsons. The results placed him third overall for the day.
Cristiano Morgado (Buondi Caffe Mygale) enjoyed his best result of the year with second overall for the day. The World Max Challenge Kart champion finished fourth in the first race and second in the second, to reverse his recent run of poor results.
First overall: Robert Wolk
"It was an up and down weekend for me. I had a bad qualifying, as the car was not handling properly. We made some changes for the first race and it was better, but I never had the pace to win. We made more changes for race two giving the car the pace to win. The result is great for my championship as it now means that I have a 21 point lead."
Second overall: Cristiano Morgado
"It was great to eventually get a good result. The car is now more to my liking and I feel more comfortable with it. We have won overseas and I now want to win a local race too."
