After a year and a half of no victories the factory Ford team of T.C. 2000 took a great triumph from the third round disputed in Trelew. Thid was the first victory for the Focus in the category in hands of Gabriel Ponce de León. But this result is even more important because Walter Hernández with the other Ford Focus and Nelsón García with a Ford Escort of the private team completed the podium giving Ford a fantastic 1,2,3 this weekend.
The dominium of the Ford Focus of the Berta Motorsport team shows that they finally found the way to do the Focus competitive. The biggest problem for the team since the develop of the car started in 2001 was the height of it: to much. Now this problems since to be part of the past and the team will try to reach with the Focus the success they did with the Ford Escort (`97, `00 and `01 champion)
Behind the three Fords were the two Toyota Corolla of the champion Norberto Fontana and Omar Martínez. The teammate gave a fantastic show in the las lap when Marínez passed Fontana and then he did the same with Martínez. The former F1 driver took with the fourth position very importants points championship where he leads with 42 followed by Ponce de León with 39.
The good news of the weekend was that Fabián Yannantuoni is back in the actvity after six months of suspenssion after he failed a drug test. Yannantuoni took a great sixth position driving the Honda Civic number 28 of the Fineshci Sport team. Fabián fought all the race with Juan Satorra, who also had a good result finishing seventh with the Ford Escort of the private team of Belloso.
It was a horrible sunday for the factory Honda Racing Argentina team. None of its three cars completed the race. The rookie Martín Basso retired in the first part of the race. Same did Juan Manuel Silva and Guillermo Ortelli who was eleventh after started 24th.
Neither was a good weekend for the factory Chevrolet Pro Racing team with the Chevrolet Astra.
Marcelo Bugliotti had gearbox problems and retires when he was fighting for a position in the top six. Longer was the time for Ledesma in the race. He retired in lap 20 with steering problems whe he was fourth doing a fantastic job in his second competition in the category.
The third round of the T.C. 2000 passed and the candidates to the championship seemes to be Fontana with the Toyota, the two Ford Focus with Ponce de León and Hernández and the HRA drivers Silva and Ortelli.
The next race for the T.C. 2000 will be next May 4th. in the beautiful and hazardous circuit El Zonda at San Juan.
