The first production model of the Infiniti Q50, which was tested and evaluated by three time world champion Sebastian Vettel, has rolled off the assembly line at the manufacturer's Tochigi production plant.

The Q50 is the first of a new generation of Infiniti cars which premiered at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and aims to set new benchmarks in terms of styling, advanced technology and performance.

Vettel, 25, spent time with Infiniti engineers in Japan early in the development process to give them feedback on chassis dynamics, performance and handling.

Along with Red Bull reserve driver Sebastien Buemi, Vettel tested early models in Japan, on the Nurburgring in Germany, at the pre-season test at Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya in March and at France’s Paul Ricard track last month.

The Q50, which goes on sale this summer, is available with a V6 3.5 litre petrol-electric hybrid and a petrol-engined 3.7 litre powertrain and is the first of a new range of vehicles under the “Q” banner.

Infiniti president Johan de Nysschen said: “The first Infiniti in our new line-up had to reflect the brand's core values of seductive design, passionate attention to detail, precision in fit and finish, exhilarating performance and a provocative challenge to the status quo. The Q50 certainly does that. This is the first step in the launch of our exciting global expansion plan."
