Extensive Television Package Announced For European Le Mans Series Race In Estoril.

Brackley, UK, Monday 25th June 2001: In addition to the live action on Sky Sports 3 and highlights package on Eurosport, Portuguese terrestrial television channel RTP2 will broadcast live coverage of the third round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) race in Estoril on 14th/15th July. The start and finish of the 1000km endurance event will be shown live along with two short mid-race action updates.

An extensive pre-race promotional push will include event trailers and numerous ELMS features on primetime sport shows. In the week following the endurance event RTP2 will broadcast a 45 minute highlights programme covering all the action.

"The decision of RTP2 to cover the ELMS event in Estoril provides another boost for the Series, the teams, their sponsors and the growing army of fans," explains John Macdonald, Executive Director for the European Le Mans Series. "It is testament to the status of the Series that Portuguese television has committed a significant programming schedule to the event. The attraction of a major international sportscar event with a highly competitive line-up of cars and drivers will ensure an exciting viewing experience. There is the added attraction of automatic qualification for the 2002 Le Mans 24 Hours for three class winners to increase the drama of the race."

12 cameras will film the action in Estoril, and four cars will be equipped with on-board cameras as well as 'foot-cams' and state-of-the-art moveable mini-cams recording driver movements and capturing track incidents at close quarters.
