Team Carly Motors driver Tom Coronel hopes for better times.
The British Grand Prix track of Silverstone was the stage of the third and fourth round of the FIA ETCC. The second race weekend of the 2002 series started off with an encouraging eighth place for Tom in the first race. "I had a good start and immediately overtook three cars. One of them managed to pass me again but after that I kept my position, so after starting from tenth place on the grid I ended up in eighth place", Tom summed up afterwards.
The Dutchman started the second race in the Carly Motors prepared Team Isert BMW from the position in which he finished the first one, so eighth. After another rocket start Coronel gained five places before the first corner.
"This one was realy mega. I took the inside line along the pitwall and overtook five people. This moved me up to third place. Two corners later I had to let by Nicola Larini again and after that Ruberti was knocking on my door. He took it a bit too literally and hit me straight on my right rear tyre, which made me hit the wall. As a result the steering rod broke which made an end to a promising race for me. For sure we were in a much better shape then we were two weeks ago and I think we can fight for the podium places in two weeks time in Brno", Tom Coronel concluded after the race. Tom's teammate Peter Kox was hit in the first race by a spinning Alfa which made him miss also the second race .
The races were won by the Alfa Romeos of Fabrizio Giovanardi and Nicola Larini who took one win each.
Tom Coronel is supported this year by Apex, Seiko, Bertelli and McGregor. The next race will take place on 19 May on the circuit of Brno in the Czech Republic
