The afternoon remained overcast and cold, but the track was dry.

First win for Tommy Rustad and Nissan

Start– Huisman and Kox have better reflexes at the green light, but pole sitter Rustad manages to take the lead under braking for the first corner.

Lap 1 - Rustad immediately tries to build up a margin, while Huisman heads the rest of the pack , which includes Kox, Morbidelli and Simon. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 7 - 15 - 16 - 12 - 6

Lap 2– Martin, who was lying seventh, drives wide at the Castrol chicane and loses several positions. Morbidelli attacks Kox for third. Palttala and Villamil fight over tenth place. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 7 - 16 - 12 - 6 - 35

Lap 3– Huisman manages to build up a margin ahead of Kox and Morbidelli, who are fighting for third place. Villamil overtakes Palttala for tenth and then Gabellini for ninth. Gabellini's BMW is suffering from fuel pressure problems. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 7 - 16 - 12 - 18 - 6

Lap 4– Engstler's Alfa Romeo 147 retires due to technical problems.Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 7 - 16 - 12 - 18 - 6

Lap 5– Villamil overtakes Andersson for eighth ; Di Luca passes Palttala ; Gabellini moves into the top ten. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 5 - 2 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 4

Lap 6– Morbidelli complains that his BMW is oversteering ; he is forced to reduce his pace, losing contact with Kox. Simon overtakes him for fourth place. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 4

Lap 7– Di Luca spins off while lying tenth and retires. Martin moves up to tenth. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 8– Edenbridge team-mates Hanson and Ferrier pass Palttala, climbing to 11th and 12th places respectively. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 9– Masini is chasing Ruberti for sixth place. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 10– Kox is closing the gap between him and Huisman, who is still in second position. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 11– Martin is on Andersson's tail, they are fighting over ninth position. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 12– Rain starts pouring down and makes the track tricky for the drivers who are on slick tyres. Ferrier and Hanson have a good fight over 11th position. Top-10: 3 - 14 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 13– Kox is pushing very hard and manages to overtake Huisman on the outside line at the Coca Cola corner. Top-10: 3 - 1 - 14 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 16 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 14– Huisman retakes second place, outbraking Kox at the Castrol chicane, but at the last corner Kox passes again as Huisman nearly spins. Masini overtakes Ruberti for sixth. Top-10: 3 - 1 - 14 - 2 - 5 - 16 - 7 - 18 - 12 - 15

Lap 15– Villamil overtakes Ruberti for seventh. Cavicchi overtakes Ferrier and Palttala for 11th under yellow. He then slows down and hands over the position to his competitors. Rustad scores his first win in the European Championship, stopping BMW's winning streak after seven consecutive successes. For the title fight, Kox reduces the gap between him and the leader, Huisman, by 3 points; Kox is now only 7 points behind. Top-10: 3 - 1 - 14 - 2 - 5 - 16 - 18 - 7 - 12 - 15

Peter Kox - nr 1 Ravaglia Motorsport BMW– 2nd : "I am pleased, because this was the first race in which Huisman and I have had a fair fight. I really enjoyed it and I hope it will be like this for the two remaining races. In the dry, I was not fast enough due to tyre pressure problems and also because we used the spare engine. It took a long time before the car picked up the pace. Then I could start to close the gap on Duncan. Ravaglia Motorsport took a fantastic decision this morning in the warm up to drive on slick tyres. We were off the pace but I could look at where the lines were on slick tyres in the rain and that helped me a lot to take second place today. Now that I have cut three points from Duncan's margin in the classification, I am positive for the two final rounds. The title fight is still open."

Tommy Rustad - nr 3 RJN Motorsport Nissan– Race winner : "It's a great feeling to have finally scored this win. I'm so happy for myself and also for RJN Motorsport, who worked hard all season with this goal in mind. I was pushing hard from the beginning. With cold rain tyres, I was sliding a bit on the first lap. But when they got up to temperature, I started pushing in order to build up a gap as big as possible. The conditions stayed good for me until three laps from the end. Then it started to rain and the car was oversteering. I saw the guys behind me were fighting with each other and that helped me pull away. I won in these conditions. A big thank to Nissan and RJN Motorsport. My personal goal now is to finish third in the championship, I hope it's still possible, but I don't know if the next track, Jarama, will suit my car ; maybe there are too many fast corners. We will see."

Duncan Huisman - nr 14 Carly Motorsport BMW– 3rd : "The race was ok. First of all, I want to congratulate Tommy Rustad for a well-deserved win. The first part of the race was good for me and I thought I could pull away from Peter Kox while he was fighting with Morbidelli. Unfortunately Morbidelli dropped back and when it started to rain, my car started to slide too much. I had already noticed that it was oversteering too much in the dry, but in the wet it became very difficult to handle. So I ran wide in a corner giving Peter an opportunity to catch me. I tried to retain the second position, but I almost spun twice ; in the end I decided that a third place was better than nothing for the championship and I settled down behind Peter. It will be a quite interesting finish for the title fight, I have already raced at Jarama and Estoril and we will also be doing some testing between the final rounds."
