"A great race and a wonderful result". Those were the words from Duncan Huisman who finished third in the second race of the second round in the FIA European Touringcar Championship at Magny Cours. For both Tom Coronel and Duncan Huisman the weekend ended in a very satisfying result.
After the qualifying session on Saturday, which was run under wet conditions an 11th place for Duncan and a 14th place for Tom put both Carly Motors drivers in the mid-field of the grid at the start of race one. Duncan was satisfied with the result; "Maybe I could have a been little quicker in the last part of the session after some small modifications, but got off the track due to very wet conditions. For Tom the problem was simple. "Because the windscreen mists-up, I can't see a thing after half a lap. I missed the first corner at least 3 times so 14th was the best I could do."
After a good start in dry weather conditions from both Duncan and Tom, Duncan finished his first lap on an 8th position. While Dirk Müller and Colciago were battling for positions, Duncan could profit from that situation and ended the race as 5th. "The car was good and I had a lot of luck in some of the corners" said Duncan in the 15 minutes break between the two races. Tom, who finished 7th, said that he had some trouble with his car. "It seems I don't have the speed I need" , but Tom managed to put his BMW 320i on a very reasonable 7th position after all.
While the first 8 finishing positions of race one form the starting grid in reversed order for race 2, Tom started race 2 form a second place, while Duncan started from a 4th grid-position.
After a great start both Carly Motors drivers went to one and two into the first corner. "Because I was a little quicker than Tom, he let me go by to lead the race. Even though he became quicker afterwards, he didn't try to attack me. We discussed this issue in the break between the 2 races to achieve the best result for the team". Race winner and BMW works driver Jörg Müller was heading up from a third place to overtake both Tom and Duncan. "There was no way to keep Jörg from overtaking us. He was just too quick" said Tom who was defending his position to Larini with whom the four drivers form the head of the field for a couple of laps. The excitement of the race was to be found between Duncan, Tom and Larini who already overtook Tom, and Later Duncan. And that would be the end result for a great Super Racing Weekend in France.
With the Michelin Independents Trophy as main goal at the start of the weekend, It seems that the Carly Motors Team can compete in a field with works drivers and works teams and that gives huge confidence to all the team-members at Carly Motors.
