FIA SUPER PRODUCTION CHAMPIONSHIP
The afternoon was sunny and warm, and the track was dry.
Rustad wins ; Kox regains Championship lead
In the warm-up, Rustad was once more fastest, with a time of 1:45.538. Masini was 0.084 seconds slower, while Tavano's Alfa Romeo 147 was third, 0.5 seconds adrift. The Italian went a second faster than he had in qualifying after the team changed the gear ratios.
Start– Rustad makes the best start and leads into the first corner. Behind him there is a six-car pile-up. Sandwiched between Huisman and Morbidelli, Villamil drives into the gravel. Di Luca, Simon and Ferrier hit Huisman's spinning car. Huisman, Morbidelli and Simon are all out of the race; while Ferrier and Di Luca (whose Nissan is badly damaged) rejoin at the back of the field. It takes Villamil one lap to get out of the gravel trap.

Kox finishes fourth and retakes the lead of the Championship with a 3-point lead over Huisman. Rustad moves up to third in the points.
Peter Kox - nr 1 Ravaglia Motorsport BMW - Championship leader: "It was a very hard race. I was lucky to avoid the first corner pile-up, but for the rest of the race, I had a lot of oil on my windscreen. As in the qualifying session, my car were never on the pace. We still don’t know why. It was just a little bit better than yesterday, which made it one of the worst races of my career. However, it was a very effective race considering that it enabled me to retake the Championship lead. With a car like that, a fourth place finish was almost a miracle."
Tommy Rustad - nr 3 RJN Motorsport Nissan– race winner : "The pole position proved to be the right place to be at the start of the race. It looked like a truck race when the rest of the field piled into the first corner. After that, I just pulled away, being careful not to make any mistakes. My car was good and consistent during the race, and enabled me to build up a big gap. I had to drive smoothly, saving the tyres, and to be gentle with the gearbox, which is the weak point of the car. The Nissan is definitely the best car at the moment. I managed to move up to third in the Championship ahead of Simon, and this is a very good reward for RJN Motorsport and Nissan, who have done such a good job during the season."
Tobia Masini&ndash - nr 16 Bigazzi Alfa Romeo– 2nd in the race : "If you think back to where we were at the beginning of the season, it is great to be on the podium. I could not challenge Tommy as his Nissan is too fast for my Alfa 156. But in the early stages of the race, there was nobody behind me, so I drove safely . Then, Hanson closed on me, and I started to push again to save my position. The latest races proved that we can be competitive for the top positions. I know that the Nissan is hard to beat, but I will try very hard to score my first win at Estoril."
James Hanson&ndash - nr 10 Edenbridge Racing BMW– 3rd in the race : "It was an entertaining race, and the start was absolutely unbelievable. I was behind Peter Kox, and I saw a cloud of smoke. I was pushed and it was a miracle that I avoided being involved in the accident. Then I had a big battle with Kox ; at the beginning it looked easy to keep him behind, but then I made a mistake at the beginning of the straight which cost me a lot of time. Later in the race, after I managed to pull away from Kox, I nearly caught Masini, but his Alfa, like the Nissan, are fairly fast in the straight line. I’m also very pleased because I’ve been the best BMW driver today, and I’m really looking forward to getting another good result in Estoril."
