Honda double for Tarquini and Thompson

In the early morning warm-up, Tarquini topped the times with a lap of 1:37.123, 0.049 seconds ahead of Massa, with Giovanardi and Colciago in third and fourth places. Walfisch's Honda stopped alongside the track when the gearbox lever broke. Gustafsson went off the track on his first lap and slightly damaged his Nissan against the barriers.

The 21st spot of the grid will remain empty as Symanzick's Opel Vectra is in the garage, the team crew working to replace the clutch. Start– Rosenblad stalls his engine at the start while Tarquini dashes away from the pole to take the lead from Thompson. Behind them there is a fight at the first corner with Massa and Colciago colliding door-to-door. They both continue but the Brazilian's Alfa has a damaged fender that is touching the front left tyre.

Lap 1– Tarquini is followed by Thompson, Massa, Larini, Walfisch, De Lorenzi and Neal. Colciago tries in vain to overtake Neal and loses his eighth position to Giovanardi.Top-10: 4 - 6 - 31 - 2 - 5 - 20 - 29 - 1- 7 - 8

Lap 2– Walfisch misses the braking point at the Bugatti corner and blocks the front wheels; he rejoins in 17th position. Giovanardi overtakes Neal for seventh. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 31 - 2 - 20 - 1 - 29 - 7 - 8 - 9

Lap 3– Massa's car is unbalanced due to his collision at the start. The young Brazilian spins at the Le Mans corner nearly collecting his team-mate Larini. Sambataro retires with a blown engine. Walfisch goes off into the gravel trap at Le Mans. Giovanardi overtakes De Lorenzi for fifth. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 2 - 1 - 20 - 29 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 18

Lap 4– Colciago tries invain to outbrake Neal at the Farina hairpin. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 2 - 1 - 20 - 29 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 18

Lap 5– The safety-car comes out, to allow the marshals to recover Walfisch's car from the gravel trap. Massa and Rosenblad are placed 18th and 19th respectively. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 2 - 1 - 20 - 29 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 18

Lap 7– The race restarts and Giovanardi outbrakes Larini at the Fangio corner, moving up to third. Lancelotti and Pigoli collide ; Lancelotti goes off at the Bugatti corner. Colciago retires from seventh due to engine problems. Zadra pits to change the front left tyre. Gustafsson goes off the track. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 20 - 29 - 18 - 8 - 16 - 31

Lap 8– Giovanardi closes on Thompson. Massa is back in the top-ten. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 20 - 29 - 18 - 8 - 16 - 31

Lap 9– Neal muscles past De Lorenzi for fifth ; both cars have damaged rear bumpers. Cayrolle overtakes Pigoli for eighth. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 29 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 8 - 31

Lap 10– Pigoli retires, suffering from a whiplash after his accident with Lancelotti. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 29 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 31 - 10

Lap 11– Massa slows down and pits as his front left tyre has deflated competely. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 29 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 10 - 19

Lap 12– Massa rejoins after the team's crew has changed the damaged tyre. Top-10: 4 - 6 - 1 - 2 - 29 - 20 - 18 - 16 - 10 - 19

Lap 13– Gulinelli loses his ninth position, going off the track at the Bugatti corner; his Alfa 156 remains trapped in the gravel. Tarquini scores his eighth win of the season, from Thompson, Giovanardi and Tarquini. De Lorenzi finishes sixth overall behind Neal and wins the Amateurs class, with Sardelli and Cayrolle second and third. Lempinen and Soli complete the top-10. The top three positions of the Championship classification are even closer, with Giovanardi still in the lead with a 9-point margin over Larini ; Tarquini, third, has closed by 8 points and is now only 21 points behind the leader.
