First win for Morbidelli while Kox is the Champion
In the wet warm-up, Ravaglia Motorsport drivers Kox and Simon set the fastest laps, ahead of Tavano's Conrero Alfa Romeo 147.
GA Racing withdrew Benny Larsson's Alfa Romeo 156 due to engine problems. Start– Rustad takes a bad start and his Nissan is squeezed behind Simon's BMW, on the inside and Masini's Alfa, on the outside. In the collision, Masini spins and t-bones Simon. They are both out of the race.
Lap 1 - Rustad has survived the crash and leads the race from Huisman and Kox; but the front left tyre of his Nissan has been damaged in the accident, therefore he has to go back to the pits. The safety-car comes out to allow the marshals to recover Masini and Simon's cars. Top-10: 14 - 1 - 3 - 38 - 11 - 5 - 39 - 7 - 10 - 18
Lap 3– The race restarts with another collision involving the two title contenders : Huisman and Kox. Their BMWs spin off ; with Kox rejoining at the back of the field while Huisman remains stuck in the gravel. Kox wins the FIA European Super Production Championship. Coronel is the new race leader ; he is being chased by Morbidelli and van Es. Rustad is lying in 15th position. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 11 -18 - 21 - 30 - 6- 12 - 4
Lap 4– Kox is black flagged for having caused the accident with Huisman; at the end of the race he will also be given a 5000 US$ fine for causing an avoidable accident. Villamil overtakes Ferrier for fourth ; Molenaar overtakes Tavano for sixth. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 11 - 30 - 21 - 6- 12 - 4
Lap 5– Villamil is closely chasing van Es for third position. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 11 - 30 - 21 - 6- 12 - 4
Lap 7– Ferrier tries to retake fourth position from Villamil. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 11 - 30 - 21 - 6- 12 - 4
Lap 8– Coronel builds up a small margin on Morbidelli. Four drivers are now fighting for third place : van Es, Villamil, Ferrier and Molenaar. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 11 - 30 - 21 - 6- 12 - 4

Lap 14– Morbidelli closes on Coronel once more, reducing the gap to 0.5 seconds. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 30 - 11 - 6- 12 - 7 - 4
Lap 15– Molenaar touches Villamil's bumper and is shown a warning flag. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 30 - 11 - 6- 12 - 7 - 4
Lap 16– Morbidelli is even closer to Coronel. Top-10: 38 - 5 - 39 - 18 - 30 - 11 - 6- 12 - 7 - 4
Lap 17– Morbidelli dives inside Coronel ; they clash and Coronel spins. Morbidelli takes the lead for good and wins from van Es, Coronel, Molenaar and Villamil. Ferrier is sixth and first of the Under 25 drivers; Gabellini beats Andersson and Ruberti in the rush for the seventh position. With van Es and Coronel classified second and third, Carly Motorsport claims the Teams Championship.

Gianni Morbidelli (ITA)– nr 5 CiBiEmme BMW– race winner : "This win comes quite late but at least we won a race, which is important. All the team did a good job throughout the season but unfortunately, we did not manage to win previously. It was a very tough race. I am very sorry that in the end, Tom Coronel and I touched. I pushed hard at the beginning but I was using my tyres too much. In the middle of the race, I had a lot of oversteering. I then preferred to drive more gently. In the end, I was quicker than Coronel and in the last few laps, I recovered a lot. Next year, I would like to do this series again but nothing is decided yet".
Sandor van Es (NED)– nr 39 Carly Motors BMW– 2nd : "I was quite conservative at the start of the race as I always thought that the Michelin tyres would wear down at the end of the race. There were also lots of things happening on the track. Unfortunately, in the third lap, my gearbox with a quick shift system broke down. So I had to use the clutch. The temperature of the gear box went up and I was then unable to close the gap on Gianni and Tommy. This is my first participation in the Championship, so I am happy to be second. I saw Tom and Gianni touch and then Tom sliding sideways. I am sorry for him as it would have been nice for the team to finish first and third."
Tom Coronel (NED)– nr 38 Carly Motors BMW– 3rd : On his collision with Gianni Morbidelli : "This is motor racing. Trying to overtake someone at that place was impossible so I never expected him to touch me there. When he touched me I just tried to keep out the gravel so that I could go through to the end. I think we had a good race. It was weird from beginning to end, with the intervention of the safety car. Strange things happened. Still, I am happy to be third. Morbidelli is a good racer. It was good fun."
Peter Kox (NED)– nr 1 Ravaglia Motorsport BMW– 2001 FIA European Super Production Driver Champion: "Unfortunately, the Championship finished with the two main contenders spinning off. I could continue but Duncan could not. For me, it was a normal racing accident. There was also a big shunt. But I got the black flag. Duncan tried to outpace me during the safety car period. I stayed with him. I just tried to overtake him. He took the dry line, I took the wet line and could not hold the car. Therefore, it was a normal accident. I am very happy for Ravaglia Motorsport as the team did a fantastic job. I would also like to thank Carly Motors for supplying the engines to win this Championship".
Carly Pellinkhoff– Carly Motors Team Manager– 2001 FIA European Super Production Team Champion : "We won the team Championship and we are happy about it. I find it amazing how competitive Ravaglia Motorsport was in its first year. Our aim is to provide good engines to all the teams and not only to keep them to ourselves. I am glad to have had my Dutch cars with me, so that Sandor could show that he is a driver of a good level and that he can also compete in the European Touring Car Championship. I would also like to thank all my mechanics, who worked hard throughout the season, as we are doing many Championships in various countries. I would also like to thank BMW Motorsport as without them, this win would not have been possible".
