First row start and season best for Alex Zanardi

After two really hot races, for air temperature and incidents, Andy Priaulx claimed the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship title in Dubai's season finale event. The BMW Team Great Britain's man finished second to Alfa Romeo's Gabriele Tarquini in both the 19th and 20th rounds of the season.

Alex Zanardi takes the lead twice during race two after starting from row one. Rangoni had the pole, but Alex took a better start and jumped into the lead, chased by J. Muller and Priaulx. During the first lap the first three clashed and spun.

At the restart, Zanardi took the lead again, but on the first lap Priaulx overtook both J. Muller and him. On lap 3, Zanardi could not resist the pressure from the Alfa Romeo men, he got past by Tarquini while Farfus, with an optimistic move, bumped into Alex's car who dropped from second to ninth.

Thereafter he was able to gain three positions and finished 6th, the best result of the season. The second best season result came during race one when Alex was able to collect a seventh place spot. The third best result came on March 28th 2003 in Monza, Italy.

Alex Zanardi will be in the United States in late November in order to launch his North American edition of "Alex Zanardi - My Sweetest Victory" from Bentley Publishers of Cambridge, Mass.

The book, first published in Italy in 2003, is an inspirational story about life more than a simple collection of racing stories. A book review is available at www.BentleyPublishers.com
