Volvo hopes for home ground success.

This weekend sees the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) move to Sweden for the 9th and 10th rounds. The LG Super Racing Weekend at the Anderstorp track, 100km from Gothenburg, will include the Volvo S60 Challenge, the Swedish one-make series that has seen some exciting racing action this season.

The ETCC Volvo S60 Racing team is looking forward to the support of the Swedish home crowd and is optimistic of a good result. There will be the boost of a third car entry by Flash Engineering, driven by Swede Jens Edman. Work between the races has focussed on the heat related fuel system problems encountered in Jarama and preparation of the third car at Prodrive in the UK.

Olle Odsell, Volvo motorsport director, is upbeat about the event. He said: "Of course we want to do well at our home circuit and with three cars for the first time we should put on a strong performance. We have invited 4000 Volvo employees to cheer the drivers which should help to support the team."

On a more technical note, Dave Benbow, Volvo S60 Racing team manager, is optimistic and considers the team well prepared. He said: "We have effected cures for the heat related problems that we encountered in Spain, although we hope that it won't be so hot in Sweden. In terms of competitiveness, I think we should be on at least the level that we reached at Brno and hopefully more so."
