SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Three states and two Canadian Provinces will see the best of "America's Race Cars" as the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Tour 2001 will visit 20 different racetracks for a total of 34 race dates. The 18th season for the New York based 360 sprint car organization will hand out over half-a-million dollars in the 2001 season.
Several dates will make this year one of the most exciting in the history of ESS. A big welcome back to the New Utica-Rome Speedway after a four year absence with a special Labor Day Weekend date. After a two year lay off the Frogtown Int'l Speedway is back and after one year off, the new management of Autodrome Edelweiss will be bringing the winged warriors to the 1/3 rd mile high banked oval.
The Second Annual Empire Super Sprint/United Racing Club Super Shootout at the New York State Fairgrounds will take place on Sat. October 6. The winner will again pocket over $5000 in the twenty mile contest held on the famed Syracuse mile during Super DIRT Week. That night the sprints will head 15 minutes West to the Rolling Wheels Raceway for the ESS/URC Challenge Series event which will pay the winner $2500 for the 25 lap event.
ESS will again play a major role in the annual Bully Hill Vineyards Fall Sprint Nationals at the Black Rock Speedway. On Fri. Sept. 7 an event billed as the "Night Before the Bully Hill" where ESS will stage a full point show to kick off the $32,000 weekend. On Saturday, it will be open competition sprints with the best from ESS taking on all challengers from the Northeastern United States and Canada for the $3000 Bully Hill top prize.
Three point shows at the Black Rock Speedway and two visits to the John Wight owned Can-Am Motorsports Park will be new to this years slate. Also, date changes for the CVRA circuit events will spread the season out more evenly and a special four race weekend with Cornwall added to the Can-Am-Quebec June swing.
Each ESS point event will again pay $1150 to win, $320 for 10th and $175 to take the green. At least a $25,000 cash point fund will be handed out at the annual awards banquet in November, along with over $25,000 on other prizes. Sponsorship programs will once again exceed $50,000 in cash and awards with many new programs being added to the already busy sponsorship fold.
Six-time ESS champion Mike Woodring has been giving hints that the 2001 point chase could be an open affair as a purchase of a USAC Silver Bullet Seriers Champ Car could force the Eden, N.Y. pilot from the title fight. Lance Yonge, Dan Kaszubinski, Mike Stelter, Rick Wilson, Steve Dow and a slew of other ESS stars will be coming to a track near you to show what winged sprint car action is all about and in hopes of collecting their first ever ESS title.
From Pennsylvania to Quebec, Niagara Falls to Vermont, it's the Empire Super Sprint Tour 2001 and it's excitement guaranteed!!!
