The race is sponsored by the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, a unit of Centerior Energy, and designed to promote the environmental benefits of electric vehicles. The EV race is part of the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland race July 12 at Burke Lakefront Airport. Ten universities from across the nation have prepared CART-style electric-powered racers to compete in the event. Race fans with access to the World Wide Web can reach the EV race site through Centerior's site at centerior.com.
