Although Opel dominated the day's racing with wins in both rounds 17 and 18 of the 2000 Bankfin Touring Car Championship at the East London Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday, it was not enough to prevent Nissan's Giniel de Villiers from wrapping up his fourth successive drivers' title with two rounds remaining.

Shaun Watson-Smith won the first race in his Petronas Syntium Opel Vectra from the BP Nissan Dealer Team Primeras of De Villiers and Duncan Vos - after pole sitter Mark Peters outbraked himself with a two second lead and put his BP Nissan Primera off the track and well down the order.

Deon Joubert won race two in his works Opel Vectra from Watson-Smith and Anthony Taylor's Engen Audi A4. Watson-Smith handed Joubert the win on the line to secure the points that the latter needs to claim third overall in the championship.
