The duo will share a 306 for the Peugeot Statoil Motorsport team Panoz ALMS ace Jan Magnussen and British Formula 3 Championship contender Nicolas Kiesa are both going to drive in this year's Danish Touringcar Championship. For the last couple of years the pair has both been contracted to the Danish Peugeot importer, and they are now going to share a 306 GTI for the official Peugeot Statoil Motorsport team along with experienced DTC driver, Johnny V. Nielsen.
"I have entered into collaboration with Peugeot Danmark and Peugeot Statoil Motorsport, as I am going to expand my Peugeot dealership business from two to three outlets and thus will have less time to spend on racing," Johnny V. Nielsen explains. The Dane has been a DTC regular since the series started back in 1999, and before that his biggest racing success was a win in the National Group N class at the Danish Grand Prix in 1998.
"I am going to share the car with Jan Magnussen and Nicolas Kiesa during the season, and as things are right now, Jan will be taking the wheel at the opening round at Jyllands-Ringen on April 29th. Then Nicolas will drive the next round at Ring Djursland, while I will take over the car for the following rounds at Jyllands-Ringen, Ring Knutstorp and Ring Djursland. For the double-header at the Danish Grand Prix in September it is our plan that Jan and I will drive a round each, but everything can of course be changed, if there are changes to the international programmes of Jan and Nicolas," Johnny V. Nielsen concludes.
This year Jan Magnussen is contesting the American Le Mans Series, where he finished third in the season-opener at Texas Motor Speedway, having put pressure on his winning countryman, Tom Kristensen. Nicolas Kiesa on the other hand is trying to follow in the footsteps of Magnussen, by contesting the British Formula 3 Series, which Jan dominated back in 1994. Kiesa will be driving for the RC Junior Prost Team, and there have already been talks about a possible Formula 1 test later in the year for the former British Formula Ford Champion.
In the Danish Touringcar Championship, Magnussen and Kiesa will be driving a Peugeot 306 GTI, which Peugeot Statoil Motorsport will run alongside Jason Watt's almost identical car (which is fitted with a semi-automatic gearbox and hand controls).
"Right now the team's engineer, Morten Karl, is rebuilding the car so that it will be up to the latest specifications for the coming test sessions. From a performance point of view the car will be identical to Jason's. The only difference during the season will be the driver behind the wheel. And perhaps there will also be a difference in the times, but I will do my best to keep that difference as small as possible," Johnny V. Nielsen says.
