Weather: Warm, overcast & windy
Mercedes drivers were once again quickest at Donington, Bernd Schneider setting the fastest time in the race morning warm-up, just ahead of Kurt Thiim.
Bernd Schneider (Mercedes) 1st: "It was a good time this morning but Mercedes has never won a Class One race here at Donington. It will be a very hard race because there will be a big battle with the other Mercedes drivers, plus Fisichella and Larini in the Alfa Romeos and Klaus Ludwig's Opel."
Kurt Thiim (Mercedes) 2nd: "My time was good this morning but we will need to change the car. We made alterations yesterday evening but they are working the tyres too much. We'll have to go back to the settings we had for qualifying."
Alexander Grau (Mercedes) 5th: "The team finally found the problem that I've had for the last couple of races and now the car feels good. I'm a lot happier and think that I might be in contention for a win in the second race."
Giancarlo Fisichella (Alfa Romeo) 6th: "I'm very pleased with the time this morning. I think we will have a good chance in the race."
Manuel Reuter (Opel) 9th: "The guys have done a good job with the car after yesterday's fire. It is working fine. Like so many other teams, we're not sure if our set-up is right for a full race distance. But I'm optimistic."
Klaus Ludwig (Opel) 14th: "We changed something in the brakes. It felt quite good but we'll decide in the briefing whether we'll use it this afternoon. The races will be hard as nearly anybody can win."
JJ Lehto (Opel) 17th: Engine problems, completed only three laps. "I've done so few laps this weekend that I really don't know what to expect in the races. I'll just go out and try my best. After all, it's better to smile than put a gun to your head."
Stig Amthor (Alfa Romeo) 21st: Gearbox failure.
Stefano Modena (Alfa Romeo) 23rd: "On my first lap something broke in the engine - I don't know what it was but there were some internal pieces coming out by the time I returned to the pits."
