Spa is back on the calendar the way we knew it: Wet!

After the absence of the Belgian track of Spa Francorchamps for one year, it is back on the formula one calendar the way we knew it. Wet. The track, often described by drivers as the most challenging of the world showed its unpredictable weather conditions with ultra wet conditions on Saturday during qualifying. "Tomorrow it will be sunny and dry", said the people who know it, so all aspects of the track must be taken by the drivers of the Porsche Michelin Supercup this weekend. The support race in the Formula One Weekend got to its eleventh round during the Belgian Grand Prix. The champion is already known. Wolf Henzler collected 200 points and is unreachable for second Dirk Werner who has 135 points after the Hungarian race two weeks ago.

Qualify

Since the team has tested in spa some weeks ago, the outlook for a successful weekend is there and both Patrick Huisman and Alessandro Zampedri were really looking forward to the "Ardennes Track" Patrick: "I know the track very well. In my Porsche Supercup career I raced here a lot, while I did several 24 hours and other races at Spa. But the track is still a challenge for me." Alex is quite confident that he will be able to achieve a good result: "The Eau Rouge is the best corner I can imagine. That means, not when you enter it, but when you came out well. It's a track for the big boys."

The wet weather conditions made the test at spa less helpful since it was done in dry conditions. But when the track is dry tomorrow we can use the setup we found during the test. Patrick put his fastest lap on the clock in his first session, when the track was at its wettest. "Actually it is funny because one would expect that when it got less wet, one would be quicker, but that wasn't the case at all. Alex was 7th and quite satisfied. "7th is ok. I think I can manage to work my way up front since this is a track where there are a lot of possibilities to overtake or outbrake.

Race

Starting from 4th and 11th position, Patrick Huisman and Alessandro Zampedri were positive about a result. Alex: The weather is good today so I hope we can gain some places during the start and then keep that position throughout the race" But things went very different for Alex. Right after the start a problem in the gearbox forced him to enter the pitlane and end the race after one lap already. "I think it is a shame and I hate to see a race from the guardrail in which I could have been competing" Patrick, who started from P4, could end the race, but only on a 6th position. "I had a good start but couldn't hold on to my 4th position since Henzler got past me very quickly. I settled behind Henzler, and later behind Menzel for some time when an old problem came back again. With my shoe, while braking, I popped off the gas pedal from its holder, so I couldn't really push anymore and couldn't avoid that David Saelens overtook me. It is a pity since the car felt quite good this weekend.
