Anthony Davidson (GB) and Mark Taylor (GB) clashed in round 13 of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship at Oulton Park today as they fought for 2nd place in the series. They had raced nose to tail throughout the event until Lap 10 when Taylor braked early for a corner and Anthony ran into the back of him. The accident sent Taylor into a spin and damaged Anthony's suspension.
Taylor was eventually classified in 5th place and Anthony was excluded from the results. With one round of the series remaining there is a three-way fight for runner-up place between Taylor, Anthony and Robert Dahlgren (SWE), who won the race at Oulton Park today.
At the final round at Silverstone next weekend, Anthony must finish in the top three with Taylor at least two positions behind. After the race Anthony was disappointed but philosophical:
"Mark had less to lose than me today. Any incident would work in his favour and that's what happened. We were running together from the start and Mark was driving very defensively. Starting lap 10, we approached Old Hall and I was tucked right on his gearbox. He braked 10 metres early, it caught me out and I hit him. The shunt spun him round and bent my suspension."
The final round of the championship will take place at Silverstone on September 16/17. The last time the teams visited the track Anthony scored a stunning victory. He hopes to repeat that success next weekend.
