Anthony Davidson drove an inspired race in his BIC Haywood Racing Mygale to take 2nd place at Brands Hatch and climb to 2nd overall in the Formula Ford Zetec Championship. As predicted, James Courtney (AUS) secured the Championship title on the same day.

Davidson, who is in his first season of car racing, finished just 0.6 of a second behind race winner Robert Dahlgren (SWE) and was the leading Brit, the leading rookie and the top Mygale driver.

Having qualified in 3rd place, taking the fight to the two works Van Diemen's of Robert Dahlgren and James Courtney in front of him, Anthony produced another storming start to pass Courtney off the start line. He was the lone Mygale in the lead battle and as the three drivers pulled clear of the rest of the field.

Anthony set the fastest lap of the race on lap 7, his 47.532 second lap was over 2/10th of a second faster than the works Van Diemens. Davidson was lapping so quickly that three of his fastest laps were better than any set by Dahlgren or Courtney.

He worked hard in the early laps to take the lead. Only once in the 30 lap event was Anthony more than a second behind Dahlgren, and that only came after he made an overtaking move at Druids hairpin which the leader forcibly resisted.

It was a brilliant drive, attacking Dahlgren and defending the attentions of Courtney in his slipstream. After the race the 21 year old from Hemel Hempstead was delighted:

"I knew I had to make a move at the start and managed to get a flyer to pass Courtney. I wanted to put pressure on Dahlgren because I'd forced him into a mistake at Croft to win the race, but today he made no errors," Anthony said after the race.

The result sees Anthony move into 2nd place in the championship (after dropped scores) as Mark Taylor (GB) was forced off the track on lap 11 and failed to finish. With two rounds remaining his goal is to be championship runner up in his first season of car racing.

The Formula Ford Zetec Championship positions after 12 rounds and dropped scores are:

James Courtney AUS Van Diemen 141 points

Anthony Davidson GB BIC Mygale 111 points

Mark Taylor GB Mygale 101 points
