CLIO CUP STAR LLOYD LOOKING FORWARD TO SILVERSTONE RETURN
Scammonden-based ELF Renault Clio Cup racer Daniel Lloyd has high hopes for the 15th and 16th rounds of the 2009 championship at Silverstone next weekend, 29th/30th August, on his return to the scene of a season's best 'Driver of the Day' performance almost seven weeks ago.
Earning the prestigious accolade for a stunning top six finish on the Northamptonshire venue's full Grand Prix layout during round 11 -- an incredible effort from 18th on the grid after a tricky qualifying session -- Daniel backed the result up with an excellent seventh place in round 12.
The 17-year-old's pace over the last few events has been nothing short of outstanding and although his results at Snetterton in Norfolk last time out weren't indicative of his outright speed, Daniel is hopeful he'll be in a position to secure his best qualifying performance of the year at Silverstone and go on to challenge for a career best Clio Cup finish.
Next weekend's action will take place on the short National Circuit and while the 1.6-mile track is less demanding than the Grand Prix configuration, it regularly produces classic Clio Cup encounters and is a track the Total Control Racing driver is very much looking forward to.
"We're really looking forward to going back to Silverstone", commented Daniel, " Last time we were there we had a couple of fantastic races but the aim next weekend is to qualify higher up the grid so we're in or around the top six from the off. Qualifying hasn't gone the way we had hoped during the last few events so if we can get that sorted I'm sure we'll be quick in the races."
Currently 10th overall in the ELF Renault Clio Cup driver standings, the West Yorkshire racer has taken two top six finishes and seven other top 10 results so far in his maiden season of competition in the championship. With six rounds remaining Daniel is just 11 points shy of his next target in the driver standings, experienced saloon car racer Carl Bradley, but 16 points clear of his nearest pursuer.
Pre-event testing for the Silverstone weekend will take place on Friday, 28th August, with qualifying for rounds 15 and 16 following on Saturday, 29th August, at 11.15. The opening race will get underway at around 15.40 on Saturday afternoon with race two -- which is scheduled to be screened live on cable, digital satellite and Freeview channel ITV4 -- taking place on Sunday, 30th August, at 12.00.
2009 Provisional ELF Renault Clio Cup Standings (after Rd14): 1st Philip Glew, 402pts; 2nd Alex MacDowall, 326pts; 10th Daniel Lloyd, 155pts
