Baseball, Football and NASCAR Greats Join Dale Jarrett in The DJ Celebrity Golf Classic MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., (Oct. 14, 1999) - Dale Jarrett will be joined by some of sports history's most notable competitors in the Second Annual Dale Jarrett Celebrity Golf Classic, dubbed "The DJ", on Wed. Oct. 27 at Myrtlewood Golf Club on the Hwy. 17 Bypass one mile north of Broadway at the Beach. . Retired New York Yankee Tommy John and former Atlanta Brave Jose Alverez, along with football greats Benny Cunningham, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers and former Atlanta Falcon Harold Green, have signed-up to play in The DJ. Current NASCAR Winston Cup Series rookie sensation Tony Stewart will also be participating. "I really admire Dale's golf game, but I'm sure I won't be near the competition for him on the links as I am on the track," quipped Stewart. "It's a good thing the tournament is for MRO (Motor Racing Outreach) and Waccamaw Youth Center. This will probably be the only time I won't mind getting beat." NASCAR legends Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett, along with NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division driver Bobby Hillin, also plan to play. The star-studded event will not be without a touch of Hollywood, as actor Mitchell Laurance from the popular television show Dawson's Creek will also be teeing it up in The DJ. On the injured reserve list for The DJ is Dale Jarrett's son Jason, an up-and-coming NASCAR driver himself. Jason recently broke his foot in a testing accident at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park. "I don't like being red-shirted at all," said Jarrett. "I'm listening to the doctors, but I'm still going to try my best to compete in The DJ. It's not often I can compete against my dad, my granddad and my uncle. We had such a great time in the inaugural Dale Jarrett Classic, that I'm really working hard to be able to make this one too." The DJ's festivities kick off on Sat., Oct. 26 with an evening of racing against fans at the NASCAR SpeedPark, and a private dinner for the tournament competitors at NASCAR Cafe, both located at Broadway at the Beach on the Hwy. 17 Bypass in Myrtle Beach. On Sun., Oct. 27, there is a celebrity skins match followed by The DJ, which will include 18 foursomes, each with a celebrity. The DJ is co-sponsored by NASCAR SpeedPark and NASCAR Cafe with all proceeds benefiting Motor Racing Outreach and the Waccamaw Youth Center in Myrtle Beach. To register your foursome to compete in The DJ, or if you have questions concerning The DJ, please contact the following: Jill Truslow with the NASCAR SpeedPark at (843) 913-9231, or Betsy Korzybski with NASCAR Cafe at (843) 946-7223.
