Coronas first win, September 28th, Chihuahua, Mexico

After being the fastest driver on Zacatecas and the two practice days in Chihuahua, Argentinean driver Waldemar Coronas (43) won the ILP race on Sunday, having started from the pole and setting the fastest time on all but one of the practice sessions of t he weekend.

"Baldi" led the 45 laps of the race finishing in 41:13.278 and setting the fastest lap of the race with 51.109. He also posted the new autodromo "Francisco Villa" record with a 49.435 on the second qualifying session.

Series leader Oswaldo Negri (2) finished second 2.830 seconds behind Baldi and has now 96 points. Coronas is now in second place of the championship with 55 and Mauro Fartuszek (21) also from Argentina is in third with 45.

Fartuszek was the only other drivers to set the fastest time in a practice session during the weekend and started 9th. He went of the track several times in the race and was only able to finish 6th one lap behind.

American driver Alex Padilla (7) started second but was passed by Negri on the first lap but stayed in third place until lap 41, after which his engine started over heating and was forced to park his Lola with only four laps to go.

Scotsman Rod Macleod (8), the only non-American driver in the series finished in third place. He qualified on 12th but by lap twelve he was already on fifth place and inherited Padilla´s third place when Alex engine quit on him.

The best two Mexicans were Cesar Jimenez (44) and Eduardo Galicia (14), who started 5th and 10th and finished 4th and 5th respectively. They are running fourth and fifth in series points.

Brazilian Zak Morioka (27) switched teams for this race and the change suited him well as he was running the whole weekend in the top positions. He started eighth but fell to 12th on the first lap as he was not able to take turn one and went of the track momentarily, finishing 7th, his best performance so far.

Next race is in the autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, site of the F1 Mexican Grand Prix, on October the 18th.
