Carly Motors just beside the podium
Tom Coronel 4th behind factory teams
It was a quite unfamiliar sight on the city track of Macau near Hong Kong, where in the past four years the green white coloured Carly Motors cars were in front of the field. This time we saw them just behind the head of the field, finishing on a 4th and 6th position. "It is not a shame to be behind the factory teams, but a podium would have made the weekend complete." Said Tom Coronel.
The start of the Guia world Touringcar race was followed as "usual" by a messy first lap with a crash in Lisboa corner where 3 cars crashed. Duncan, who started from P10, was not able to completely avoid a clash with the crashed cars and had to retire with suspension damage. The Carly motors crew was able to repair Duncan's car in time before the last lap of the first race so Duncan saw the chequered flag in race one.
Tom, who started from a 6th place, was driving a steady race, staying out of the trouble. "I had a steady race and wanted to finish this first race. I was at a 6th position when Dirk Müller crashed into the wall and had to retire. A 5th place is at least a possible outlook to a podium position."
In Race 2, the final race out of the two world Touringcars races raced in Macau, Duncan had to start from the back of the field since he finished last in race one. He did a magnificent job overtaking everybody in the field up to the 6th place. Duncan : "It wasn't my weekend. I had a lot of bad luck but the Carly Motors team did a great job repairing the damage on the car from the qualifying accident and made it maybe better than new" Tom started from a 5th place on the grid. Tom: "My tyres were not as good as expected from training and testing periods and the car had a lot of oversteer. After the safety car period we had in race two, it was an excellent moment to get to the tail of Rydell, who was on 3rd position at that time. Unfortunately I couldn't get into his slipstream while in an ultimate effort to get to him I almost lost the car at the last corner before the straight. Then I decided not to push any further and finish the race on a 4th position.
