JOCELYN FECTEAU SIXTH IN 2009 CHAMPIONSHIP
Mirabel (Quebec), September 6 2009.- This past weekend at Mirabel's ICAR Complex, Jocelyn Fecteau and Media Racing Team completed the 2009 Canadian Touring Car Championship, with a ninth and a fifth overall position at the end of the two races. These excellent results allowed Fecteau, a rookie driver in the series, to finish the season in a very respectable sixth place in the Touring Championship Class, better than the original "Top 10" goal.
Presented Saturday afternoon, the first of the two races saw Jocelyn Fecteau finish in ninth place after he was victim of a small collision on the first lap. " I had a good start but unfortunately on the second turn, Sylvain Laporte was pushed into me. He hit my rear front wheel and the impact damaged the alignment " indicates the driver from Mont-St-Gregoire. Forced to continue the remainder of the race with this handicap, Fecteau nevertheless only gave up a very small amount of time to his main competitors. " When we compare my times with those of the practice session and of Sunday's times, I estimate that the damages cost me about 2 seconds per lap, which accounts for the ninth place " he adds.
The Toyota Corolla XRS, which was repaired in time for Sunday's race, allowed the driver to shine in the second round, the last of the 2009 season. " My Corolla gives me 160 horsepower and I was able to race against 200hp Civics. It really was a great race and I am very happy with yet another "Top 5" " confides the driver.
This past weekend, under sunny skies, the 2009 Touring Car Championship came to an end. This was a fantastic experience for the entire Media Racing Team, explained Jocelyn Fecteau : " we were faced with transmission and engine problems this year. It was a challenge for all of us but we overcame the problems, persevered, and progressed " says Fecteau.
He adds : " at one point we were fifth in the championship standings but we had to do half of the season with a stock engine which, when we look at the small gaps between the drivers, was a big handicap. We also had to compete with strong competitors, of which some were particularly aggressive and caused several collisions without ever getting reprimanded. At the beginning of the year, we were hoping to be one of the first ten on the year-end leader board; we now end the season in sixth place with twelve "Top 10" finishes, including a podium at Toronto's Grand Prix Indy. It's an extremely motivating result for a rookie team and driver ".
In the upcoming months, Media Racing Team will finalise their plans for the 2010 season. The team expects to once again compete in the Canadian Touring Car Championship with their Toyota Corolla XRS from the 2009 season or possibly a new car. " We are exploring several options, one of which is a Scion, which will be introduced in Canada by Toyota during 2010 " reveals Jocelyn Fecteau.
