Ernesto ¨Tito¨ Bessone completed an amazing weekend in the seventh round of the Turismo Carretera championship. The Dodge driver arrived to Olavarría very sick, however he never gave up and he fought until the end to take his eighth victory in the category.
Bessone knew that this was his race. Despite his health condition Olavarría was the opportunity to win and start thinking more relaxed in the championship, where he is the leader after this competition.
30000 people said present (acording to the ACTC) to live a real party of the Turismo Carretera.
Already on saturday Bessone shown the perfonmance of his Dodge fighting the pole position. However the champion Guillermo Ortelli, Chevrolet, took the fastest lap followed by the sourprising Ariel Pacho with a Torino.
On sunday the fog in the circuit delayed the iniciate of the activity.
After the three qualifying races, Bessone started the final race from the first position, followed by Pacho, Henry Martin and Gabriel Ponce de León, both with Ford. The best Chevrolet in the grid was Ortelli, sixth.
Bessone was, no doubt, the big candidate to take the victory. In the first lap, Pacho fought the leadership with the Dodge, however the inexperience of the Torino driver (20 races in the category) put him out of the track in the first move.
After ten laps Martin, second, accelerated his Ford and started fight the first place with ¨Tito¨. The dispute between the two leaders was very intense during seven laps. But the Pace Car cut the emotion in lap 18. In the re-start Martin lost perfonmance in his Ford. Bessone took a difference and the eyes were in Martin, Ponce de León and Diego Aventín who were fighting for the second position. When it rest only two laps to the chequered flag, Martin, who was very complicated with his Ford, lost control in the last curve when it rest only two laps to the chequered flag.
Despite the intention of Ponce de León to fight with Bessone, The Dodge driver took the victory.
This was the first victory for a Dodge in this circuit, built in 1998. Until sunday only Ford and Chevrolet won here with four each one. Since December 1985 that a Dodge doesn`t win in Olavarría. Roberto Mouras took that race when T.C. still has races in routes.
The last victory for Bessone in T.C. was on July 22th. at the Balcarce race, also with Dodge.
The fight for the championship has Bessone in first place with 97, 50 points. Christian Ledesma (arrived 5th.) lost the leadership and he is second with 92,50, while Ortelli (4th. at Olavarría) keeps third with 82,50. Aventín finished third and he is the best Ford with 76,50 points.
The next round will be on June 29th. at the Salta circuit.
