GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (July 24)- Will Langhorne got into Grand Rapids before most of his competitors in the Barber Dodge Pro Series. He put the extra time to good use.

Langhorne took several different looks at the Scott Brayton Memorial Street Circuit in downtown Grand Rapids. So when Langhorne got on the track for real Friday morning, he was ready.

Langhorne, of Washington, D.C., set the fastest time in Barber Dodge Pro Series practice Friday, turning a fast lap of 1 minute, 16.458 seconds for an average speed of 74.394 mph on the tight, 13-turn 1.58-mile temporary street course. Todd Snyder was second in 1:16.599 (74.257 mph) and Alex Gurney was third, nearly a half second behind Snyder (1:17.096, 73.778 mph).

"The thing that gave me an advantage was I got here on Wednesday and I spent as much time as I could on the track," Langhorne said. "I walked the track. I rode a bike on it. I took a golf cart on it. (Thursday night) I spend about three hours on the track and I walked it again this morning.

"I looked at the line and flow of the track and for opportunities to pass. It enabled me to go out and be comfortable right away."

Snyder, who is second in points, was the only driver, who was close to Langhorne.

"I was able to get a couple of clean laps without any traffic and that was the key because it's going to be tough to pass here."

First-round and final qualifying for the Barber Dodge Pro Series is Saturday.
