Avent?n gives Ford 500 victories in rainy day at Buenos

¨I want and I need to win¨. Those were the words of Diego Aventín after the saturday qualify session.

In a different day, a sunny saturday shown Aventín in third place. On sunday the weather changed. the rain appeared one more time with a Turismo Carretera visit to Buenos Aires circuit. Aventín took the victory followed by the Chevrolet drivers Christian Ledesma and Guillermo Ortelli in a wet podium.

The conditions weren`t o.k. for the 46 drivers and the result was clear. An accident in the first lap between the Ford of José Luis Ricciardi and Armando Ciancaglini and the Chevrolet of Gastón Aguirre. The consecuences were important. Ricciardi with a broken leg. His co-driver Emanuel Iaruso, Aguirre and his co-driver Poeyllut received medical atention for other injuries. The race was stopped during many laps with the Pace Car. The other main star of the journey.

Aventín passed J.M. Silva, who started from first after win the fastest short qualify race, in a great move with a very difficult track. The championship leader Ledesma started fifth and quickly moved to fourth leaving behind Ford driver Fabián Acuña. After 10 laps and another Pace Car the eyes were in the battle for first between Aventín and Silva and the personal battle between the two Chevrolet contenders for the 2003 T.C. championship Ortelli and Ledesma fighting for the last step in the podium. In lap 12 Ledesma passed Ortelli in a risky move to take the third place in the same moment that Silva`s engine started to fail and loose places in the race until arrive 16th., 18 seconds behind the winner.

Ledesma tried to catch the leader Aventín but it was impossible. Diego shown all his talent to take a very important victory to continue fighting the championship. Besides, this was an historic day for the Ford fans with the victory number 500 since the category started in 1939.

¨Win a race under rain was something I wanted¨ recognised Aventín after the podium. Even more happy was the team manager of the Lincoln Sport Group, Hugo Cuervo: ¨Today Diego received of great driver, because with rain only the real drivers win¨ This was the second consecutive victory for the LSG and the seventh for Aventín in 73 races.

It was a good sunday for the Chevrolets fans after a couple of bad races. Ledesma arrived to this tenth round with only two points with the second Bessone and now leaves with 18,5. ¨It`s a good difference, but we can`t relax¨, commented Christian. While the added: ¨I risked because I knew I could do it with a driver like Ortelli¨, said about his move to pass the champion.

Ortelli also enjoyed a podium after some bad races that put in danger his chances for the championship. With the third place now shares the second position in the standings with Ernesto Bessone. The Dodge driver lived another difficult weekend, complicated with the ballast in his car number 7 and he qualified 20th. on saturday. However Bessone took advantage of the rain and he was tenth when he lost control and retired.

Worst is the situation of Omar Martínez. The Ford driver ended 22th. on saturday. He started the main race fas away in the T.C. field and he quickly retired in the first lap. Martínez is fifth in the standings with 103 points. Ledesma has 134,5. Bessone and Ortelli are with 115. Aventín jumped from fifth to fourth and now has 106,5 points.

It could be a great weekend for Norberto Fontana. The fomer F1 driver took his the pole position on saurday with only 8 races, but the rain on sunday ended with his chances to take his first victory in T.C. He couldn`t even start the main race.

Now the Turismo Carretera will move to Rafaela circuit in the province of Santa Fé next August 24th.
