This year's Australian Drag Racing Nationals, will go ahead next month after intervention by the sport's governing body, ANDRA. The event, the biggest of the local drag racing season was under threat after the management of Melbourne's Calder Park withdrew from promotion of all events at the venue last month.

ANDRA CEO Tony Thornton said that the challenge of organizing and funding the Nationals at such short notice was a big one, but that a number of people and businesses within drag racing had already pledged their support.

A management team has been assembled in Melbourne to oversee preparations, and an office will be set up to handle inquiries and arrangements.

Entry information will be circulated nationally in the next week.

The 2001 Australian Drag Racing Nationals will open on Thursday, March 15th Qualifying for all categories will be held on Thursday and Friday, with racing on Saturday, March 17th.
