Racing Tomorrow At Willowbank Raceway
There's just one month remaining in the countdown towards the 37th annual Winternationals drag racing spectacular at Ipswich's Willowbank Raceway on June 11-13.
But it'll be business as usual during tomorrow's second last round of the Track Championship featuring Queensland's own Supercharged Outlaws, as Raceway officials pull out all the stops to ensure the Winternationals caps off an action packed Australian season.
"For the Winternationals to be a fitting finale we must ensure that all events hosted at Willowbank Raceway are of a quality standard," said Raceway General Manager Harry Rowsell.
"The Winternationals is about celebrating all levels of participation in the sport of drag racing and with tomorrows showcase of group two and three competitors there'll be no shortage of fuel charged antics.
"There's a great mix of male and female drivers right across the program who are ultimately eyeing an eventual start in the six professional brackets.
"Driving intensity will be a common variable as all drivers use the occasion to fine tune before they once again join the elite of the sport in Australia's biggest and best drag racing feature on June 11-13."
The 2003/04 season has provided an excellent platform from which the Winternationals will continue to grow well into the future.
With support from the Queensland Government a million dollar resurfacing project was undertaken prior to the start of the season and it appears that drag racing fans have voted with their feet in anticipation of a brilliant drag racing showcase during the Winternationals.
"Anyone who knows even just a little bit about the sport will realise optimum drag racing variables such as cooler weather and a silky smooth surface will ensure the possibilities are endless come this year's Winternationals.
"With still four weeks remaining we are definitely on track to ensuring a packed house will be in attendance to witness what is promising to be the best ever Winternationals showcase.
"Late last week we were encouraging motorsports fans to get in early to avoid disappointment and, if anything, the ante has picked up even further the past seven days with now close to three quarters of the reserved seating area of the grandstand booked out."
"But the best part for fans is that there is an entire viewing mound on the opposite side of the grandstand that will prove an ideal spot for individuals and families alike.
Driver nominations for the Winternationals are now being accepted by Willowbank Raceway and will close on May 28.
The Ipswich City Council is fully committed to motorsport in the region and is an active member of the Carnival of Horsepower promotion that seeks to encourage the general public to attend three major events on the Ipswich sporting calendar.
The Willowbank Raceway Winternationals will be held on June 11-13, the Ipswich Turf Club will host the Ipswich Cup on June 19 while V8 Supercars are featured during the 6th round of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship series at Queensland Raceway on July 2-4.
