Audi debuts in Russian Touring Cars Championship
Sport-Garage racing team makes an announcement it will use new Audi A4 during 2006 RTCC season. For Ingolstadt mark it will be Russian debut.
Sport-Garage has always used VAG cars for racing since the team was established in 1998. But now they switched from VW to Audi. Two A4 cars have been prepared for Russian touring racing by Audi Sport specialists and Finnish Lehtonen Motorsport team engineers and mechanics. There was a lots of victories on Scandinavian racetracks (which looks like Russian by the way) for Audi A4 drivers. But the most important thing is that Audi cars have never participated in Russian racing competitions before. Now they will! Ingolstadt mark has achieved some great wins during recent years - such as "Le Mans 24 hours", ALMS, DTM and many others. And RTCC will be another challenge for 'four rings'.
Sport-Garage has a testing program, which will take place at one of European racetracks in April. Team's pilots - USSR ex-champion Aleksander Orlovsky and multiple Russian champion Alexey Dudukalo - engineers and mechanics will take an acquaintance to the new car before the beginning of RTCC season, which is planed to start on the 14th of May on "Neva ring" in St. Petersburg.
Audi A4 on Finland track
Alexey Dudukalo, Sport-Garage pilot: "Audi corporation is ranking a top position in car racing. German cars have won lots of competitions both in European and national championships. I am happy to spend the season coming under the wheel of Audi A4. This allows me to reach higher purposes than just a podium finishes".
Aleksander Orlovsky, Sport-Garage pilot: "I haven't seen Audi alive yet , but obviously the car needs lots of work to do. The engine is vigorous enough, but we don't know anything about brakes and suspension system engineered specially for Russian conditions. The results will greatly depend on pilots' and engineers' work during spring tests".
Sergey Krylov, the leader of Sport-Garage project. "?udi Sport has great potential and good reputation in racing. We are pleased to work with this company and without any doubts new racing technique will be very competitive in Russia. Victory is our main purpose for the coming season".
