Asian Formula 2000 - Front row battlers look set for close race.

Hong Kong's Mike Miller was fastest in qualifying for both of the opening rounds of the Asian Formula 2000 series at Subic International Raceway in the Philippines.

On a track which was "changing all the time, but getting faster," the airline pilot beat Singapore's Denis Lian by three-tenths of a second in the first session. Miller was surprised to be able to repeat the feat for the second round of the championship. "I am still a little inconsistent. Half way through that lap it didn't look very good." It was: half a second faster than Lian.

30 year old Lian finished runner-up in the series last year and remains confident: "I am not sure how, but we'll find a way to be faster in the race."

Third fastest for both rounds was Indonesia's former karting champion, Meckel Ali. "I am at the limit," confessed Ali. Meritus Team boss Patrick Roberts believes there is more to come: "This is the first time I have worked with him - I need to see a bit more - but he has natural pace."

Barry Forth whose recently renamed Eyhob Motorsport runs Miller's car, was delighted with the results so far: "It's all racing, but being at the front puts a smile on your face!"
