Following the recent announcement of Team Petronas Primax's two new cadets, a vigorous testing and training program is already well under way.
The two budding champions have completed an intensive two-month session in New Zealand driving hundreds of laps in an array of vehicles including Formula Ford, Holden (GM) Commodore and even the venerable Australian HQ Holden.
Both now move onto their next phase of training that will take them to Team Petronas' other stronghold, South Africa, where they will work within the multiple championship-winning Opel factory operation based in Port Elizabeth.
Team Petronas' current international stars, Mike Briggs, Shaun Watson-Smith and Deon Joubert will each indoctrinate them into the cut-and-thrust of Touring and Production Car Racing.
"The boys are performing well so far," says Team Petronas Principal, David Wong "We've thrown them in the deep end and both are still swimming strongly. It's early days, but the signs are good."
Syed Iskandar Bin Syed Hashim Age: 21 Lives: Johor Bahru
Iskandar already knows his way around Team Petronas, having worked intimately with the all crew for over three years.
Beginning as a general hand, Izzy's dedication and task-focused attitude lead to his promotion to this ultimate position of driver in SE Asia's leading Touring Car team.
His quiet demeanor belies an underlying burning desire to carry Malaysia's flag onto the prestigious stage of Formula One.
Along with his teammate Fariqe, he knows he has only just taken the first step on a fantastic journey and that a great deal of hard work still lies ahead.
Mohammed Fariqe Bin Hairuman Age: 18 Lives: Johor Bahru
Much like his Sauber Petronas F1 hero, Kimi Rakkonen, Fariqe's entry into the high profile world of international Touring Car racing is something of a fairy tale.
Scouts alerted David Wong to the keen youngster who was given the chance to prove himself on the track alongside teammate Iskandar.
His instant turn of speed and uncanny car control rewarded the team's judgement and quickly had learned heads nodding in agreement.
Fariqe's out-of-the-box skill and youthful exuberance now only needs to be tempered against the rigours of international competition.
Brash and excited as he may understandably appear, Fariqe's vision is also to carry his national flag proudly to the pinnacle of motorsport. Just look into his eyes and see the determination that dream has already produced.
