Yamano takes round 7 pole

Japan's Naoya Yamano put his Ao's Racing Honda Integra DC5 on Division 1 pole for Round 7 of the Asian Touring Car Series tomorrow at Korea's 2.4km Taebaek Circuit with a time of 01:02.815.

Problems with his transponder meant he was only able to complete five laps during the session, but it was enough to give him the top spot. "The team did a great job of fixing the problem which allowed me to go out again and take poll," said the delighted driver.

Gary Sham of Hong Kong took the second quickest time in Division 1 setting a time of 01:03.569 in his 3 Crowns Racing Honda Integra DC2.

"I had no problems and I'm very happy. I'll be doing my best for the race, but for sure I'm confident," he said.

In Division 2, Seijiro Sawa took the honours in his Select Racing Team Honda Civic EK9 with a time of 01:02.950. Danny Stacy Chau was second quickest in his Team IMSP Honda Civic EG6, but was less than satisfied. "Old men are supposed to be fast!" he joked. However, on the short Taebaek Circuit he pointed out that tyres will play a crucial role in the race. <pre> Qualifying Round 7

Naoya Yamano grabbed his second pole position of the day setting the quickest Division 1 time for Round 8 of the Asian Touring Car Series tomorrow.

Fellow Japanese driver Seijiro Sawa took pole for Division 2 in the Select Racing Team Honda Civic EK9.

"I'm really pleased," he commented. "I was worried about the weather, but the rain didn't come," he said of the dark clouds which threatened to burst throughout the session.

Yamano clocked a best time of 01:02.376 for Ao's Racing in his Honda Integra DC5, having overcome a chronic handling problem throughout the session. "It was very difficult," he said. "My machine had a lot of understeer and is very heavy, but I did my best and took pole. The (Honda) Civic is a light car compared to mine."

Second quickest in Division 1 was Gary Sham in the 3 Crowns Racing Honda Integra DC5, with Ao Chi Hong of Macau third.

Behind Sawa in Division 2 was Team IMSP's Danny Stacy Chau in the Honda Civic EG6. "This time was harder (compared to the morning qualifying for Round 7)," he said. "I came in and adjusted the tyre pressure and then I was able to set the time."

All the drivers will be keeping a close eye on the weather conditions as they take to the 2.5km Taebaek for the first time in anger tomorrow.
