Qualifying -- Australian Super Truck Racing Championship Rd 2 -- Mallala Raceway -- April 19-21
Tulloch under the record for pole.
Australian Super Truck Racing Champion Ian "Inky" Tulloch showed his rivals a clean set of heels by taking yet another pole position at Mallala Raceway. The two-times champion continued his quest for a third straight title with another record breaking performance, almost a second under his existing benchmark in the CAT Freightliner.
The slick New Zealand operation's nearest rival was Shell Rimula's Rodney Crick. Forsaking the unsorted and troublesome Volvo, Crick was aboard Rod Neven's Volvo and was pleasantly surprised by his performance.
"Its nice to be so far into race meeting and not have something go wrong knowing that the equipment was always where we were coming undone," he said. "I was surprised with just how good this truck is. It has lots of power and gets out of the corners beautifully. It has more traction than even my old truck."
Behind the pair and just over a tenth of a second apart were Luke Sieders in the Herd Bars MAN and local John Bomberle's Kenworth. Another South Australian in Bob Middleton (CAT White) was next best beating the brake-troubled of Kenworth of Rob Russell to sixth place.
Then followed the Scania of Barry Butwell, Frank Amoroso's Kenworth and the Volvo of Colin Lovett while tenth was Ken Lusty in the Isuzu FSR, the first of the Light Trucks ahead of David Pitman's Mack, Graham Spencer in another Isuzu and the Ford Cargo of Gavin Manning.
