Champ looks to three in a row after sub-record pole for round one

Two times and reigning Australian Super Truck Racing Champion, Ian "Inky" Tulloch has put his Caterpillar Freightliner on pole for tomorrow's opening round of the 2002 championship. Circulating in a pole earning best time of 52.6895 seconds, he undercut the lap record and was over half a second ahead of his nearest rival.

Sharing the front row will be Luke Sieders in his Herd Bars MAN while five-times champion Rod Crick starts the first race from position three. Crick's Shell Rimula Volvo has a Cummins powerplant under the bonnet for the immediate future in a bid to bridge the gap to Tulloch.

V8 Stock Car driver Bob Middleton is racing Tulloch's old White Aero and was fourth fastest ahead of Frank Amoroso who returns in his Kenworth after a two-year layoff. Barry Butwell qualified his Scania in sixth spot ahead of Colin Lovett who is in the old Crick Volvo.

Next was Nigel Valois replacing Joe Scarcella in the SRZ Kenworth with Dave Pitman (Mack) and Ken Lusty behind. Lusty is another name making a series return and leads the Light Trucks in his SRZ from champ Graham Spencer while Matt Aaron was disqualified.
