ANDERSON, Ind. (Aug 3)----Ray Fullen won his third Hoosier Park Late Model feature of the year Saturday at the Anderson Speedway, capitalizing on an early leader’s misfortune. Vic Hellis led the first 4 laps before his ignition packed up. Fullen motored to an easy win over Bobby Fields, Jim Cooper, Tim Neal and William Mefford. Rick Fields won the heat over Al Grogg and Hellis.

Mike Cain led the first two laps of the Big Lots Figure-8, but a slow car laying water ended his night. He hit water in the corner and went straight into the fence. Darwin Blankenship came in late and finished off Cain’s Chevelle. Rich Boyer assumed the lead and took an easy victory over Gene Huston, Herb Rose, Chris Bair and Tom Gossar. Blankenship won the heat over Bair and Rose.

Danny Whitaker led from the start of the 20 lap Street Stock “A” main over Bob Lemen, Dennis Wallen and Larry Southerland. As often happens in Street Stock racing, a minor spin happens at the rear of the field. Two cars pulled back onto the track, directly in front of the leaders. Points leader Wayne Young bounced off the slow car and into Southerland. Larry said, “I could have changed Wayne’s lug nuts on his right front. His tire was in my driver’s door window.” Southerland came out on top, winning the race over Wallen, Whitaker, Chris Bair and Lemen. It was Larry’s first 1996 win. He credited Kevin Bowling with making his car go fast. Gary Moore powered ahead of the wild “B” main. Larry Swinford, Jr. was DQ’d early for rough driving. His crash claimed three cars. Moore held of a determined Deanna Schwartz. It was her best race to date and had the race gone another couple of laps, she could have made it interesting. Mike Hopkins took third. Rob Wyman, in his first 1996 race, took the fast heat. It was the best race of the season, with three wide racing. Moore, L. Swinford, Jr. and Danny Stanley, Jr. won the other heats.
