Friday, June 16/2000 - Montreal, PQ - Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve - The Key Motorsport Formula Ford 1600 racing team carried optimistic hopes into qualifying after an excellent performance in the first practice session today.

James Yott suffered suspected clutch problems midway through the session and his solid progress throughout the weekend was halted. Yott will start in 7th position for tomorrow's race (2:10pm - RDS - live). Yott said immediately after the session that he was confident in putting himself higher up the grid as the session went on, but was cut short with what he said most likely was a clutch problem.

"Somewhat of a disappointment not getting all my laps in," said Yott. "Despite this setback, I am in a very good position for tomorrow's race and confident of a strong result."

Frederick Martel, who was unofficially fastest in the today's first practice session qualified 8th, Martel said he was pleased with the result. "Not bad for today, we could have been a bit better but I am confident for the race. It's a long race and lots of things can happen. We are looking for a podium position tomorrow."

Tomorrow's race is scheduled at 2:10pm and will be broadcast live on RDS (French Sister Station of TSN).
