The second meeting of the '97 JTCC in the former GP track served as the de facto opening rounds, for the previous races in Fuji last month were rained out.

The Japan Automobile Federation laid out a new technical regulations which enable the makers to put wider tires, extra aero parts and winglets to their Super Tourers for this season.

Whatever the change the Honda Accord never lost the winning touch. The only serious challenge came from Motoyama in a Nissan Primera picking up a fourth in race one and a second in race two.

Toyota is scratching their heads over the new Chaser. Unable to cure the handling problems in testing, the auto giant threw away the idea of retiring the three year old EXiV which forces the two works teams, Tom's and Cerumo, to conduct a dual racing program for the time being.
