Victory for Patrick Huisman - Kelleners' Points Lead Diminishes

The Eschmann-Manthey-Racing team took a double victory at the eighth round of the Porsche Pirelli SuperCup on Hungary's twisting 3.971 km circuit. Reigning champion Patrick Huisman (NL) got the jump on pole- setter and team mate Stephane Ortelli at the start and went on to take his second victory of the season. "I had an excellent start and lead into the first corner. That was half the battle won. However, my injury from Le Mans began bothering me and my concentration went wavered." Ortelli was left to fend off a determined attack from Sascha Maassen in third. Ortelli remarked: "Unfortunately I couldn't make the most of my pole position and I spent the race defending my second place. Every time I tried to chase Patrick, Sascha would make a move on me. It was tough but fair."

Despite missing out on a podium finish, fourth place reigning vice- champion, Oliver Mathai set his third fastest race lap of the season here in Hungary. Ralf Kelleners' fifth place has reduced his drivers' cup lead from 20 to 12 points, giving Huisman, Ortelli and Mathai a chance to catch him in the two remaining rounds.

Portugal's Pedro Couceiro drove the 16 lap sprint with measured caution to cross the finish line eighth. "It's hot here and almost impossible to pass, but I managed to overtake three competitors." Meanwhile the "Battle of the Brits" raged for places 12 and 13. Guest driver Allan McNish (UPS Porsche-Junior team) exchanged paint with ex-BTCC champ Tim Harvey (Parabolica), with Harvey coming out on top. "That was a great fight. We're going to take up stock car racing later in life," qiupped McNish.
