PAUL NEWMAN GRAND MARSHALL - Paul Newman will serve as Grand Marshall for the race this weekend at Road Atlanta. The track is one he should have fond memories of, as it was where he won his SCCA GT-1 National Championship. Of course, his most recent SportsCar win -- and his last professional race -- was the 1995 Rolex 24 at Daytona. Newman teamed with Tommy Kendall, Michael Brockman and Mark Martin in Roush Racings #70 Nobodys Fool Ford Mustang Cobra R to win the Exxon Supreme GTS-1 division. NAPA OFFERS 2-FOR-1 -- NAPA Auto Parts is offering 2-for-1 tickets for this weekends Grand Prix. Coupons good for the 2-for-1 offer are available at participating NAPA Auto Parts stores in the Atlanta area. By presenting the coupon at the Road Atlanta box office, race fans can buy one ticket -- any ticket -- and get a second equivalent ticket free. Tickets, which include infield and paddock admission, are $40 for the weekend, $30 for Sunday, $20 dollars for Saturday. Children 6 - 12 are $5.00. Children under 6 are free. All tickets include free admission on Friday.
TEAM MSI MAKE-A-WISH POLE AWARD -- Besides having a distinct advantage at the first turn on the first lap, the fastest qualifier for this weekend1s 2-hour Exxon World SportsCar Championship race will also collect the $1000 bonus for the Team MSI Make-A-Wish Pole Award. Perhaps more fortunate, though, is the local Make-A-Wish chapter. They1ll receive a $4000 check and will be hosting a local Make-A-Wish child on the starting grid prior to the race start. DRIVER MEDICAL EXAMS REQUIRED -- Per Tech Bulletin #2 issued on March 5, 1997, All drivers holding current competition licenses must have a current (within the last 6 months) completed medical examination form. The medical examination forms are available via SportsCar1s Fax on Demand -- Call (201) 947-7455 from the handset of your fax machine and request document 4640 for SportsCar Membership and FIA License Applications. Please complete the exam and form and mail/fax to Sally Burnett at the SportsCar office by today, April 15. If you are unable to get the completed form to SportsCar by April 15, be sure to bring a copy to SportsCar registration at Road Atlanta.
PRE-RACE TESTING -- Thursday, April 17, testing is available for all SportsCar series competitors by arrangement with the promoter. Testing is also available on Tuesday and Wednesday for Endurance Championship and Black Magic Pro Series competitors., and those WSC/GT entrants that have specified in writing that Road Atlanta is their home track (per the 1997 Code Book).
