FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ANDERSON, Indiana (March 31)---The stock cars will return to the Anderson Speedway after a two week hiatus. The Open Competition Figure-8 racers will visit this week. The race cars represent the gamut from Open-cockpit stockers to semi-modified stock cars. The drivers will contest the feature event over 50 grueling laps. Indianapolis drivers R.J. Norton, Jr., Fred Bair, Jr., Mike St. John and Charlie Coles are expected as is Greenfield ace Duane Lee. Anderson’s own Terry Malone is hoping to win the $1500 top prize. Norton captured the first race. (These cars will take the place of the regular Figure-8 class.)
The Hoosier Park Late Models is the top class competing on a regular basis at the track. They are called stock cars, yet there is nothing on the cars stock. The bodies, normally formed from aluminum or fiberglass bear little or no resemblance to a passenger car. Those differences aside, the class is extremely exciting and fast. Anderson’s Jim Cooper captured the 1995 title over fellow hometowner Ray Fullen. Both failed to finish last week’s main event. Recent points champions Bobby Fields (Willow Branch) and Vic Hellis were seriously injured last spring. They have returned for the 1996 season. Bobby’s brother Rick has taken two wins with Fullen one. Chris Bair (Anderson) captured last year’s Street Stock points war. Anderson drivers Wayne Young and Rob Hazelbaker, along with Markleville’s Dennis Wallen have captured feature events so far. Young has also broken the track record.
