Van Amersfoort Racing signs Jeroen Mul in Formula Renault 2.0l
Van Amersfoort Racing won the German ATS Formula 3 Championship in 2009. For 2010 the team has a strong line-up with vice-F3 champion Stef Dusseldorp, Daniel Abt and Willi Steindl. VAR is also racing in Formula Renault 2.0L where it continues their cooperation with Jeroen Mul. The talented youngster from Badhoevedorp ended last season as runner-up in the Formula Ford Championship with VAR. For the 2010 season Jeroen will join the Formula Renault-team of the legendary team from Huizen. "Our ambition is to fight for the title immediately." Van Amersfoort Racing has been specialising for years in the training of young drivers to become professional drivers. The team's comeback in Formula Ford was marked with fast progress and huge success.
Jeroen Mul seized this opportunity and will now join the team in the Northern European Cup (NEC) Formula Renault 2.0. "This is a very natural step, Jeroen deserved it.", says boss of the team Frits Amersfoort. "We are thrilled that Jeroen is going to be driving for us. I think he can give us some great results."
Jeroen Mul is also very excited with the challenge that awaits him from the first race at the Hockenheim circuit: "It is an advantage that I drove last year for Van Amersfoort Racing in the Formula Ford. Now I know how professional the team is. Formula Renault is a logical step for me and a great series. The aim for the season is to score as soon as possible. I hope that I can get a podium finish this season."
The Formula Renault makes a fresh start, because this season marks the introduction of the new generation of the Formula Renault-car. A lot of new teams join the field at the same time. "With the introduction of the new car and the new teams it is wide-open. Who the title challengers will be is unknown, so there are chances for us", explains Frits van Amersfoort. "Our ambition is to fight for the title from the start of the season. We are also thrilled to be a part again of the important Northern European Championship, as we are one of the founders of this championship."
To give Jeroen Mul the best preparation for the season, Van Amersfoort Racing conducted two tests at the Spanish circuits of Quadix and Valencia. It was the first time for Jeroen to experience a car with downforce. "Jeroen did a good job. As soon as we received the new car, we will start testing again with Jeroen." says Frits van Amersfoort.
The new Formula Renault 2.0 car is more similar to a Formula 3 car, as it also features a paddle shift gearbox. As for now Van Amersfoort Racing will run a single new generation car in the 2010 Northern European Championship. "We also have two last-generation cars that can be run for talented drivers if desired." This is possible because the Northern European Championship will feature two different championships: one for the new car and one for the older car.
