IDAFAR PREPARES WELL FOR LAST ROUND OF WINTER SERIES
Teenage Formula Renault UK graduate Menasheh Idafar produced a solid effort during official testing at Rockingham International Super Sports Car Circuit today, Friday, 7th November -- the venue for this weekend's Winter Championship finale.
Currently 16th overall in the driver standings following the opening two rounds of the winter series at Croft in North Yorkshire six days ago, the British-born Bahraini is aiming for two top 10 finishes at Rockingham tomorrow, Saturday, 8th November, during the decisive third and fourth races of the campaign.
Undertaking three officially timed test sessions today, Menasheh was faced with wet conditions during the first 50 minute run, a drying track during the second period and then a fully dry run in session three.
Unsurprisingly, each of the 28 drivers on track set their respective fastest times during the final run with the 17-year-old Hillspeed racer ending up with the 13th best lap of 1m 16.630 seconds (91.54 mph). He did expect to go faster but his new tyre run was compromised by heavy traffic and a session stoppage.
Nonetheless, the Gulfol, Ortolan and Gulf Computer Services backed racer was happy with his day's work as was Hillspeed team principal Richard Ollerenshaw who is hoping for a fully dry day at Rockingham tomorrow.
"We're happy we're in a strong position for Saturday's action", said Ollerenshaw, "Menasheh ran close to the top of the times fairly consistently but when everyone took new tyres he unfortunately slipped down the order as he encountered a lot of traffic on his fast run. It's been a good day though all in all, he did a very good job."
Qualifying for rounds three and four of the Formula Renault UK Winter Championship will begin at 09.20 tomorrow morning, Saturday, 8th November, with race one expected to get underway at 11.20 and race two scheduled to start at 14.20.
