BRATT OPTIMISTIC FORFIRST THRUXTON RACES OF SEASON
Fresh from podium success at Rockingham Motor Speedway last weekend during the third round of the Formula Renault UK Championship, Will Bratt heads to Thruxton just over a week from now bidding for top three results in the fifth and sixth rounds of 2007.
The 2.35-mile Hampshire circuit, situated near Andover, hosts what promises to be one of the most action-packed race meetings of the campaign on 5th/6th May and with the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport team having produced a quick and well-balanced car for Will for the first two events of the year, the 19-year-old is confident of Thruxton success.
"I'm optimistic for Thruxton, the car worked well during the recent official test and the target is definitely to be on the podium again", said the Adderbury ace, "Obviously I want to win, and I think we're making the progress for that to be achieved, but the next best result is to be on the podium in both races."
During official testing at Thruxton a fortnight ago, the outing acting as pre-event preparation for rounds five and six, Will posted the second fastest time during the afternoon session to underline his terrific potential.
Although disappointed to come away from the first event of the season at Brands Hatch without a podium, a questionable drive-through penalty ruining Will's chances of an almost certain rostrum finish, he made amends at Rockingham last weekend with an outstanding drive to third place during the first of the weekend's two races.
Now, the University of Oxford scholar is bidding to add more podiums to his season's tally in order to firmly assert himself on the 2007 title chase but he also understands the importance of finishing strongly in both races to score as many points as possible.
"Thruxton is a circuit I enjoy, I absolutely love the high speed corners which are a real challenge and I'm hoping for a very good run", added Will, "You obviously need a fast, well set-up car at Thruxton and I'm confident that's what we have at Apotex Scorpio.
"We are quite a few points behind the championship leaders already due to some misfortune so we must have a strong weekend at Thruxton to keep ourselves firmly among the chasing pack."
The fifth and sixth rounds of the season at Thruxton mark the first of two visits this year to the ultra-fast Hampshire venue, the second coming in mid-October for the Formula Renault UK Championship finale.
Qualifying for round five of the Formula Renault UK season will take place at 10.20 on Saturday, 5th May, with the round six session following at approximately 14.45. Both races will then take place on Sunday, 6th May, with round five timetabled to begin at 11.35 and round six expected to get underway at 16.05. Digital satellite and cable channel Setanta Sports 2 will broadcast the race action live.
