BRATT FASTEST IN TESTING AT DONINGTON GP CIRCUIT
Will Bratt got his preparations for the 17th and 18th rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship off to an outstanding start at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit today, the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport ace posting the fastest time overall after heading the quickest of the day's three sessions.
The 19-year-old, who during this coming weekend's World Series by Renault-supporting event at Donington will receive the additional support of new partner Serif (Europe) Ltd, enjoyed an excellent day's work at the wheel of his race-winning Formula Renault UK car and is even more confident he will be able to fight for potential victories on Sunday.
Having started the day strongly with the fifth fastest time during session one, his best lap a time of 1m 31.1 seconds, the Adderbury-based motor racing star chose to only complete a total of seven laps during the second 50-minute run, electing to undertake some essential work ahead of the weekend's action by bedding in new brakes.
In the third and final session, Will produced a sensational performance by lapping the full Grand Prix track in 1m 29.3 seconds to post the quickest time of the day. Looking ahead to the weekend's two races, the University of Oxford scholar is confident he can challenge for a brace of wins and also keep his championship chances alive.
"It's been a really good day's testing, we had everything hooked up in the final session and I was very pleased with our best time", commented Will, "Fifth fastest in session one was a decent start to the test and then in the second session we simply worked on bedding in brakes and other essential things ahead of the weekend.
"I felt pretty confident coming into Donington anyway but after today's test the whole team has been boosted further and we're hopeful we should be able to challenge for a couple of wins which would be superb. If I can still be in the title fight when the weekend's action is over, I'll be very pleased."
Qualifying for rounds 17 and 18 of the Formula Renault UK season takes place at 13.15 on Saturday, 8th September. For this race meeting, the regular qualifying format of two sessions is to be replaced, meaning each driver's best lap time will determine their starting position for round 17 with second fastest times forming the grid for round 18.
Both races will be held on Sunday, 9th September, with round 17 set to begin at 09.00 and round 18 scheduled to start at 16.00.
