BRATT HOPING TO IMPROVE ON TOP SIX AFTER BRANDS TEST
Formula Renault UK Championship front-runner Will Bratt concluded official pre-event testing at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit this afternoon sixth overall on combined times, but the 19-year-old is confident he can challenge for a place on the front row of the grid for this weekend's 15th and 16th rounds of the campaign at the Kent venue.
After posting a best lap of 44.870 seconds (96.16mph) during the first of today's two test sessions, Will improved by over three 10ths of a second this afternoon to move into the top six with a time of 44.544 seconds (96.87mph), less than a 10th of a second shy of the top three.
Running new tyres and fresh brakes during session two certainly helped the Adderbury racer lap closer to the front-running pace and although acknowledging there is work for the Apotex Scorpio Motorsport team to do before Saturday's two qualifying periods, Will is sure he can challenge for podium results over the weekend.
"Our time from this afternoon's session is more representative of our true pace compared with our best lap from this morning", commented Will, "But we're still not entirely happy as we need to find a couple more 10ths of a second to be in the fight for wins this weekend.
"We'll go over the data and see where we can make improvements and I'm confident Jon (Pettitt) and Tony (Trevor) will give me a car capable ofchallengingfor the front row in qualifying tomorrow so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. The minimum I want from this weekend is two podiums but I hope we'll be in the hunt for wins too."
From 14 race starts this year, Will has taken three race victories, three other podiums and another half-dozen finishes inside the top six to secure a richly deserved third overall in the championship standings. His excellent record has been instrumental too in seeing Loughborough-based Apotex Scorpio hold third place in the entrant standings.
Qualifying for rounds 15 and 16 of the Formula Renault UK Championship will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 18th August, at 09.00 and 14.25 respectively with both 24-lap races scheduled for Sunday, 19th August, round 15 expected to get underway at 10.00 and round 16 timetabled to start at 17.00.
