SILVERSTONE TRIPLE-HEADER SET TO TEST TITLE HOPEFULS
Michelin Formula Renault UK front-runners will be vying for a massive 102 points this weekend as the drivers compete in only the second triple-header in the series' history.
Following the postponement of round five at Brands Hatch GP circuit back in May due to adverse weather conditions, the drivers will have three rounds to contest at Silverstone National circuit on 21st/22nd August. The 22-lap re-run round five will take place on Saturday at 5.25pm while rounds 13 and 14 of the single-seater series will run as scheduled on Sunday.
With just 27 points separating the top five places, the meeting could prove decisive for any one of the main title protagonists.
Hungarian racer Tama's Pa'l Kiss, driving for Atech GP, currently leads the drivers' standings but only by a margin of seven points and will start Saturday's round five in P3. In an unchanged grid from the original qualifying session, Manor Competition lock out the front row with Lewis Williamson (Golspie) on pole and Will Stevens (Oxshott) alongside him. CRS Racing's Harry Tincknell (Exeter), who picked up his second win of the season last time out at Snetterton, slots into fourth place.
The first time drivers faced a triple-header was at Snetterton in 2008 when heavy rain prevented round 10 being run at North Yorkshire's Croft circuit. Alexander Sims took the honours then ending the season as Vice Champion to winner Adam Christodoulou.
Pole-sitter for round five Lewis Williamson commented: "I'm really looking forward to the weekend and it's going to be great for spectators too with plenty of racing. It's so close at the top and with so many points to play for there's a lot of pressure to perform. I'm just going to try and keep a cool head and hopefully come away in a strong position going into my home track at Knockhill."
