MILLROY WORKS HARD TO SCORE SOME GOOD POINTS AT SILVERSTONE
Silverstone GP was the setting for "World Series hosted by Renault" this weekend. With crowds in excess of 100,000, Renault put on an impressive show with Clio Cup, Formula Renault UK, Formula Renault Euro and Formula Renault World Series.
Ollie's determination to do well was even higher this weekend, due to a big audience and racing along side the more advanced Formula's that he could come across sometime in his career.
Qualifying was a one shot session, due to the busy racing schedule; the 2 fastest times would be used for Race 1 & 2. Ollie topped the timing board straight away, with confident time on pole, he pitted for new rubber but then found himself battling through traffic for the final part of the session. So after not getting in a final clean lap, Ollie was placed 5th and 7th for the heats on Sunday.
Race 1, Ollie got a good start from 5th, keeping consistent pace and keeping out of trouble, Ollie managed to grab fourth and take it to the chequered flag.
Race 2 was a little more eventful for Ollie, starting from 7th he had a more work to do than usual. Ollie also had some pre race issues, as he pulled up on the start line after the formation lap, the car would to go into 1st from neutral, With the 5 second board hung out Ollie thought he would be the only stationary car when the lights went out. Just as the lights went out, Ollie got 1st gear and hit the gas, the car was snaking everywhere but he was moving which was the main thing, and defended well into the first corner.
A few laps later Ollie was flying in 5th ready to make a pass on 4th place team mate Will Stevens, Ollie had a big brake fade causing him to drop back from Stevens and further on in the race cost him another 2 places, Ollie managed to fight hard to finish the race in 7th after an impressive drive with warped front brake discs which nearly had him off the track on a number of occasions.
Ollie commented; I had a good weekend considering the few little issues we had, I was struggling to keep the car on the track in race 2, so 7th was good in that round. The car felt like a 600kg kart with a rear brake, they just locked up every time I hit the brakes! Great weekend though, to be along side Eurocup and World Series is great and I hope to be stepping up to those Formulas soon.
